Through the Heritage in Schools initiative teachers can book Heritage Specialist Lorna McCormack and bring wool education to children of all ages and explore the world of wool. Lorna encourages children to explore the world of wool, from its origins to its many uses. Through her Wool2Ewe box, she provides them with hands-on experiences and exploration and teaches them about Irish wool and textiles.

Wool2Ewe™️ is a comprehensive wool education programme designed to generate awareness among students about the benefits of wool and local sustainable fibres. The programme includes a colourful display box for classrooms containing fun, educational and creative resources, making it easy for teachers to integrate wool education into their curriculum.
Virtual reality (VR) workshops/ school visits in schools offer a transformative way to educate children about farming, wool education, immersing them in the agricultural world without leaving the classroom. These VR experiences can simulate the daily operations of a farm, shearing sheep and farming providing a hands-on learning environment that is both engaging and educational.
This is our hybrid workshop focusing on wool, heritage and a VR experience offering a rich, engaging experience for students, connecting them with local history, traditional crafts, and sustainable practices.
Introduction to Wool and Heritage
Heritage : We with a presentation on the history of wool production in the Ireland. Discuss the importance of sheep farming, the development of textile industries, and the role of wool in Ireland.
Wool Processing: We demonstrate the journey of wool from sheep to finished product. This includes carding, spinning, and weaving or knitting.
Students can try carding wool with hand carders to understand how fibers are aligned.
Sheep Shearing :
A 360 video/ VR experience showing the shearing process.
Opportunity for students to touch raw wool and learn about the different types of wool and their properties.
A wool in school workshop is a multifaceted educational experience that enriches students’ knowledge of their heritage, enhances practical skills, and promotes sustainable practices. By combining historical context with interactive, hands-on activities, the workshop can inspire a deeper connection to local traditions and an appreciation for environmentally responsible choices.
