Intergenerational learning

Wool in School has collaborated with numerous County Councils and Government Departments  across Ireland to unite nursing homes and schools through our Intergenerational knitting bunting kit. Stitching the Community Together initiative  brought together over 1500 children and older people together through the craft of knitting since 2023 and growing.

Children and older people meet once a week , learning to knit, sharing stories and making long term connections by unravelling and knitting together. Our knitting project is a perfect way to promote intergenerational learning, craft, heritage, community engagement and fostering respect and understanding across generations.

St Annes National School Co Kildare

Stitching the Communknitty Together Initiative

At Wool in School, we believe Intergenerational learning is a powerful approach to education and social interaction that benefits both older adults and young children. It fosters mutual respect, enhances learning and development, and strengthens community ties. By creating opportunities for these interactions, we can build a more connected, understanding, and cohesive society.

Overall Wool in School emphasises the importance of connecting generations through a creative and productive activity, enriching both the lives of the students and the older participants involved.
